Custom & Other Hardware RFQ Guide: Identification, Samples & Approval
Other Hardware contains uncommon, multi-function or not-yet-specialised products. A clear application record is more reliable than forcing them into the wrong category.
1. Start from the application
Describe where the hardware is used, what it connects/supports/protects, how the user interacts with it and why a standard category does not fit. Current examples include connector clips, shoe-cabinet mechanisms, concealed connectors, ventilation grilles, holders and corner protectors.
2. Build an identification pack
- Product link, supplier reference or physical sample.
- Overall and interface dimensions with units and tolerances.
- Front, back, side, installed and moving-position photos.
- Mating part, cabinet/door/profile cross-section and hole pattern.
- Material, finish, markings and included accessories.
3. Describe movement and performance
State travel, rotation, folding or locking sequence, working load, usage frequency and environment. Separate observed features from unverified claims. For safety- or load-critical use, define the test fixture, acceptance criteria and required documentation before quotation.
4. Confirm sample and approval stages
For an uncommon or custom item, use drawing approval, pre-production sample and installation test before bulk production. Record approved dimensions, material, finish and packaging so later orders can be compared with the same reference.
