Sliding Door Roller & Hanger Buying Guide: System Fit & RFQ Checklist
Sliding-door guide rollers, support rollers, hanging rollers and pocket-door systems are not interchangeable. Specify the complete door movement and track arrangement.
1. Map the complete sliding system
| Component | Role | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Guide roller | Controls lateral position but may not carry the door weight | Guide gap, roller position, door thickness and allowable side movement |
| Support or bottom roller | Carries or supports the moving door/panel | Wheel diameter, track contact, bracket height, load path and adjustment |
| Hanging roller | Suspends the door from an upper track | Track compatibility, hanger connection, wheel arrangement and anti-jump provision |
| Pocket/retracting system | Moves a cabinet door into a side pocket | Door dimensions, travel, hinge/interface, pocket clearance and handedness |
2. Provide door and track information
State door material, width, height, thickness, weight and centre of gravity. Send the track cross-section with internal dimensions and running surfaces. A wheel diameter alone cannot confirm compatibility because groove, axle, bearing, bracket and track profile work together.
3. Confirm wheel and bracket geometry
Record wheel diameter, width, groove/profile, axle diameter, bearing or bushing construction and wheel material. For the bracket, provide overall dimensions, hole pattern, adjustment range, offset and installed height. For replacement parts, send the old assembly and track dimensions.
4. Define movement and adjustment
Specify travel, opening direction, number of rollers per door, adjustment method and required access after installation. Confirm anti-jump, stop and guide components where applicable. For pocket systems, provide open, closed and pocket positions and check interference with hinges, handles and adjacent cabinets.
5. State duty and environment correctly
Provide working door weight, operating frequency, expected life, impact conditions and environment. A supplier load number is meaningful only with its test fixture, number of rollers, track and loading direction. Ask for the relevant report when verified performance is required.
Sliding-door roller RFQ checklist
| System | Top-hung, bottom-rolling, guided, folding or pocket/retracting |
|---|---|
| Door | Material, width, height, thickness, weight and centre of gravity |
| Track | Cross-section, running surface, internal dimensions and material |
| Roller | Diameter, width/profile, material, axle, bearing/bushing and quantity per door |
| Bracket | Installed height, offset, hole pattern, adjustment, handing and access |
| Commercial | Set/piece unit, included track/stops/guides, packing, sample, destination and delivery date |
Common buying mistakes
- Matching only wheel diameter without the track profile.
- Confusing a guide roller with a load-carrying roller.
- Using a printed load without the number of rollers and test fixture.
- Ignoring installed height and adjustment access.
- Assuming tracks, stops and anti-jump parts are included.
