Cabinet Handle & Pull Buying Guide: Centres, Fixing & RFQ Checklist
Cabinet handles, pulls, knobs and ring pulls are selected by fixing geometry, hand clearance, furniture style and finish. Confirm dimensions before approving appearance.
1. Identify the fixing format
| Format | Typical fixing | Key dimensions |
|---|---|---|
| Knob | Usually one screw through the door or drawer front | Diameter/width, projection, base size, screw thread and panel thickness |
| Two-hole handle or pull | Two through-screws | Hole centres, overall length, projection, grip clearance and base width |
| Ring or drop pull | One or more fixings with a moving ring/drop | Backplate, pivot, hanging envelope and clearance from the surface |
| Recessed or edge pull | Mortised, routed or edge-mounted | Cut-out, edge thickness, depth and screw positions |
| Adhesive handle | Pressure-sensitive adhesive on a prepared surface | Bonding area, surface type, load direction and supplier installation limits |
2. Use hole centres as the main replacement dimension
For two-hole handles, the centre-to-centre fixing distance is usually more important than overall length. Provide both dimensions and the existing hole diameter. For replacement projects, check whether the new bases cover old marks and whether screws align without forcing the panel.
3. Check hand clearance and projection
Measure grip opening, projection from the door, finger clearance and distance to adjacent doors, walls or appliances. Large projections may interfere with corner cabinets or walkways; very shallow grips may be uncomfortable with gloves or thick doors.
4. Confirm panel thickness and screws
State the door/drawer material and thickness. Confirm screw thread, diameter, head, finish and usable length range. Pictured screws may be sample packing only, and cutting screws on site can damage threads or finish if not planned.
5. Approve finish with a physical sample
Finish names and screen colours are not controlled colour standards. For a coordinated furniture range, request finish samples under the intended lighting. Confirm whether the body, backplate, ring, inserts and screws use the same material and finish.

Common buying mistakes
- Ordering by overall length while ignoring hole centres.
- Forgetting grip clearance and adjacent-door interference.
- Assuming one screw length fits every panel thickness.
- Approving metallic colour from a screen image alone.
- Mixing knobs and handles without a finish sample.
